In this section we will look at products from 1 July 2018 and 1 August 2018 and discuss the forecasts for Europe and expected quality based on verification of re-forecasts.

  • 51-member ENS that is run monthly, data time 00UTC, on the first day of each month for forecasts to 7 months ahead, and run quarterly for forecasts to 1 year ahead. The resolution is 36 km
  • The SEA5 is based on a relatively older cycle of the IFS
  • SEAS5 provides a broad overview of the atmospheric evolution for the 7-month or 12-month period
  • SEAS5 products are presented in terms of anomalies relative to the model climate (seasonal model climate)
  • SEAS5 helps identify and inform about broad scale indicators or indices that represent important aspects of the global weather patterns (e.g. El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) index)
  • SEAS5 skill depends on parameter and area. Check the verification before over interpreting results
  • Don't focus on small scale anomalies present on maps.
