We perform adjustment on single months, which essentially means normal distributions for temperature. Some regions have bi-model distributions across the year as seen in my slide. An empirical approach, as the one we use, could adjust any distribution, but it is safer to separate in different seasons to stay closer to the processes that are causing the bias. We are working on a publication, but for now I can refer to the time-scale cascade method: https://doi.org/10.5194/hess-15-1065-2011

Do you know about any references displaying such a bimodal temperature distribution in the daily data?
