Related alphanumeric code for wave buoys is FM65 WAVEOB.
BUFR template used for wave buoys should be the same than for moored buoys (TM315008). GTS headers should start with character string 'IOB'.
It must be noted that another template for spectral wave data (TM308015) is under validation process. It should be used for other systems than moored buoys, including remote platforms (aircraft or satellite). GTS headers should start with character string 'IOW' in that case.
FM65 WAVEOB messages : by mid-September 2016, Meteo-France was receiving the wave data of 160 US moored buoys + 3 other stations (SXVXnn KWNB) and 6 Australian buoys (SWWE01 AMMC). Strictly speaking, the headers should have started with SWV.
FM94 BUFR messages (moored buoy template (TM315008) put apart) : Considering their headers should start with IOW, by mid-September 2016, Meteo-France was receiving such data from UK Met Office (EGRR) and Australia (AMMC). Australia was using template TM308015 (validated?) whilst UK Met Office was using their own. It seems that wave BUFR data was not yet decoded at Meteo-France at this time.
