Currently it is not possible to stop an application running. What is possible is to have it removed from the list of running applications for a user.
This can be done in 2 places, from the "your requests tab", and within the toolbox editor in the tab "Your queue".
There selecting the execution to be deleted, then using the delete button.
Using "back" from the browser, or closing the page will not stop the execution. However, when opening the requests tab or queue tab, one will see the running workflows. There as said one can stop them. To stop them means to interrupt the broker to track them.
