The runoff component of glaciers melts is present in the ERA5 data, however there is little knowledge of its realism.
The glaciers are represented in HTESSEL as a large amount of snow which is kept fixed to 10 m of snow water equivalent. This snow when reaching melting conditions is producing a water influx to the soil and contribute to the total runoff.
The mass balance is not accounted for over glaciers as the snow is replenished to maintain the 10m fixed.
