There are two similar datasets ERA5 (from 1981 - present) with 0.1 ° grid resolution and ERA5 on single levels with lower spatial resolution but also with the longer temporal resolution (1979 - present).
I would like to ask you why is that? And what should I know about the differences between them as an end-user (phenological analysis)?
Thanks!

Hi,
ERA5 is the fifth generation ECMWF reanalysis for the global climate and weather from 1950 to the present. It provides hourly and monthly estimates for a large number of atmospheric, ocean-wave and land-surface quantities on different levels. For more details please have a look at the following page: ERA5: data documentation
The dataset that you named ERA5 (from 1981 - present) with 0.1 ° grid resolution is the ERA5-Land data from 1981 to present. It is a reanalysis dataset produced by replaying the land component of the ECMWF ERA5 climate reanalysis. A series of improvements makes it more accurate for all types of land applications. Please have a look here for the details: ERA5-Land: data documentation.
For comparison of the ERA5-Land features against other ECMWF reanalyses please have a look here: First ERA5-Land dataset to be released this spring
Hope this helps
