ECMWF and the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) are pleased to announce the expansion of their open data offering in 2023.

From Monday 6th March 2023 onwards, CAMS will provide the following meteorological variables on model levels, in addition to the existing atmospheric composition variables, without any delay as part of its real-time forecast delivery services:

  • Geopotential
  • Specific humidity
  • Temperature
  • U-component of wind
  • V-component of wind
  • Vertical velocity

This dataset is defined as the minimum set of meteorological fields needed to interpret atmospheric composition fields.

These fields are available from the CAMS global atmospheric composition forecasts in the Atmospheric Data Store (ADS) and from the CAMS FTP dissemination service. Data from the ADS may be downloaded either interactively using the ADS web interface (Download form) or programmatically using the API service.

The CAMS: Global atmospheric composition forecast data documentation has been updated.

This expansion of the open data offering is a significant step forward in providing the most accurate and up-to-date data to support research, decision-making and the development of new products and services. ECMWF and Copernicus Services are committed to improving the availability and accessibility of their data for the benefit of society.
