Initial conditions

10 day Snow Anomaly

Measured deviation of LISFLOOD-derived 10-day average snow depth from reference 'normal' conditions for the specified date. The normal conditions have been derived using the simulated Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) from the model climatology.

Satellite Snow Water Eq.

Snow water equivalent (mm) derived from satellite measurements (AMSR-E microwave radiometer on EOS-Aqua) with assimilated ground observations for the specified date. This is an operational H-SAF product. (More Information).

Initial conditions

Satellite Soil Moisture

Relative soil moisture for soil depths 0.1m (red) to 1m (blue)  for the specified date as derived from the advanced scatterometer (ASCAT) on board the METOP satellite. Relative soil moisture is calculated using a weighted average of the three different soil moisture layers provided by ASCAT. This is an operational H-SAF product (More Information).

Synop 24 hours precip

TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED DUE TO TECHNICAL ISSUES IN THE DATA PROCESSING

24-hour accumulated observed precipitation (mm) based on SYNOP stations. It is valid for the 24-hour period ending at 06 UTC for the 00 UTC products and at 18 UTC for the 12 UTC products (on the same day). Four quadrants or two halves (following the order of the numbers in time) are displayed for each station depending on whether 6-hourly or only 12-hourly observations are available. The 6/12-hour values are colour coded with yellow/red/brown colours indicating rain, while light-blue/blue/dark-blue show snow dominant areas. The station name is provided above the rectangles while the 24-hour total precipitation below them (only visible when zoomed in).
