Dear CAMS users,
 
ECMWF is planning to introduce a new upgrade of the CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) real-time data assimilation and forecasting system on 6 October 2020. 

This upgrade includes various changes to the forecast model as well as the emissions that are used in the forecast model. Resolution and data formats remain the same. The CAMS upgrade also benefits from all the meteorological changes that are part of the overall ECMWF cycle upgrade. The new system has been running for some months now and the CAMS Validation team are assessing the output to ensure the quality of the analyses and forecasts. The main changes relate to improved emissions treatment, improved modelling of sea salt and dust aerosol, and improved modelling of stratospheric ozone. A full overview of all the changes can be found on the page mentioned above. The full validation report will become available from the CAMS web site as soon as the assessment has been finalised.

Users wanting to access the output from the current test system can access the data from 1 October 2019 onwards directly on MARS or through our WebAPI service as described here: https://confluence.ecmwf.int/display/COPSRV/Accessing+CAMS+47r1+test+data.

For users who are registered to our operational FTP server, we are providing daily global test data in the CAMS_GLOBAL_TEST and CAMS_EUROPE_BC_TEST directories. In addition, surface level fields (model level 137) are provided as individual files in the CAMS_GLOBAL_ADDITIONAL_TEST directory. The most recent 3 days of test data are available in these directories on any given day.
