Goals
Second meeting to discuss how to implement SURFEX tile variables in GRIB2 (see Tiles handling in GRIB 2, Options for IFS, CARRA, CERRA tiles encoding in GRIB 2 for some background). Trygve & Patrick – SURFEX experts – joined for this meeting
Discussion items
- It was agreed that the pre-existing templates do not have the necessary flexibility to fit SURFEX or other tile models (e.g. at ECMWF).
- We will begin the process of designing a new GRIB template for this purpose. Some requirements of the types of patches (tile subsets) required from the SURFEX perspective can be found in the attached PDF: correspondance-patch-vegtype.pdf
These are the ECOCLIMAP tables and how they map to NPATCH within the SURFEX model. - There will also be urban tiles in the future which will also be subsetted into various patches.
Action items
- Arrange meeting to discuss requirements of ECMWF tile model (early Jan): Matthew Griffith
- Arrange meeting to brainstorm tile templates internally (early Jan): Matthew Griffith
- Arrange meeting for next discussion on using the template for the SURFEX model (second week of Jan): Matthew Griffith
